Errata

I check all my patterns very carefully with my editor and publishers – but inevitably mistakes sometimes creep in. Big apologies for any confusion this causes and we really hope it hasn’t stopped you enjoying your knitting too much.

To find the known errata for the book you’re working from, please click on the relevant book cover image below. Alternatively, just scroll down till you find it.

If you spot a mistake not listed, please email me through the contact form on this website (or at my main email address which is fkgoble@btinternet.com) to let me know, so I can pass the information on to other readers.

Knitted animal nursery

Ladybug backpack, page 15

The making up instructions should include that using yarn B, you need to work a line of chain stitch down the centre of the ladybug to divide the body into two wing sections. This line of chain stitch  is clearly visible in the photo.

Learn to knit

The text given for the abbreviation sk2po in the patterns for Fancy rib slouchie beanie, Multicoloured bobble beret, Stitch pattern slouchy beanie and Simple knit bobble hat is incomplete.

The text should read: slip 1 stitch, knit 2 stitches together, pass slipped stitch over. (The current copy doesn’t contain the word ‘together’.)

The instructions given for the technique on page 21 of the book are correct so if you’re having a problem please check that out.

Animal scarves, mitts and socks

Hedgehog mitts

The left mitten pattern is correct but for row 26 of the right mitten please replace Row 26 with the following.

Row 26: P17, (k1, p1) to last st, k1.

Shark scarf

Please replace the copy from the beginning of Row 107 to the end of Row 121 with the following instructions:

The underlined parts of the following text highlights the oversights.

Row 107: K2, ssk, k to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2. (9 sts)

Row 108: K2, p to last 2 sts, k2.

Row 109: Knit.

Row 110: K2, p to last 2 sts, k2.

Rep rows 109-110 twice more.

Shape tail

Row 115: K2, m1, k to last 2 sts, m1, k2. (11 sts)

Row 116: K2, p to last 2 sts, k2.

Rep rows 115-116 three times more. (17 sts)

Row 123: K2, m1, k6, turn and cont on 9 sts just worked, leaving rem sts on needle.

The last row of the instruction replaces the printed instruction for Row 121.

After completing what is now Row 123, continue as printed pattern till end.

Duckling scarf

In the instructions for the duckling tail, some extra text has crept in.

Please delete text for the three rows after the instruction for the third row in the second column of text which reads:

‘Next row: [K1, k2tog] 3 times, k1, turn. Work on 7 sts just knitted only, leaving rem sts on needle.’

So after completing the above instruction, go straight to repeating the instruction from * to ** in the previous column once more, then complete the scarf as instructed.

Seal scarf

The stitch markers identifying the rows for picking up the stitches for the flippers should be placed at each end of row 28 and 48 (not 15 and 35 as indicated in early editions of the book).

Cute & Easy knitting

Woodland key rings

Please omit rows 8 & 9 in the pattern for the flower pattern. Then simply knit the pattern as written.

Placemats

In the very first column, under ‘Yarn and other materials’, please note that you will need 2 balls of the specified yarn to complete one table mat. (The mats actually use about a ball-and-a-third each, so if you are knitting a set all in one colour, you do not need to buy 2 balls for each mat. For example, you will need 4 balls for a set of 3 mats and 8 balls for a set of 6 mats.)

Also on this page, at the very top of the middle column, the instruction should be:

Cast on 20 sts in A or B, using your yarn double. (The first edition instructions do not specify that you need to use the yarn double)

Coasters

The correct gauge (tension) for this project should be 21 sts and 38 rows in garter stitch to a 4-in (10cm) on US 2/3 (3 mm) needles using yarn double. (The first edition instructions has the wrong tension/gauge figures)

Dog draft excluder

The dog’s coat and coat strap (though not the collar) should be knitted on US 6 (4 mm) knitting needles, not US3/3.25 mm as stated. The gauge/tension for the coat and coat strap is 18 sts and 25 rows to a 4-in/10cm square.

For the instruction following Row 6 (currently: ‘Rep last 2 rows 47 times more’), please add at the end of this instruction ‘or till coat measures 16 in (41 cm) from cast-on edge’. Then continue pattern as written.

Knitted animal hats

Prickle the hedgehog

Row 6 should read:

Cast on 6 sts in A, cast on 21 (27) sts in Ball 1 of B, p21 (27) sts in B, p24 sts in A, p21 (27) sts in B. (66/78 sts)

The original instruction said p18 sts instead of p24 sts

Buzzy bee hat

It will be useful to wind a 3.5 yd (3 m) separate ball of yarn B before you start.

Row 9 will then read: K30(36) in B form main ball, k12 in A, k30(36) in B from small ball.

You can then break the yarn on the small ball once you have come to the top of the bee’s face.

Savannah the zebra

The first line of instructions on p35 should read:

Next RS row: K1, [sl1, k2tog, psso, k2] 5 times, sl1, k2tog, psso, k1. (so k1 at the end and not k11 as printed)

Rumble bear

The row after row 34 should read as follows:

Next row: K4, [sl1, k2tog, psso, k8] 5 times, sl1, k2tog, psso, k4. (54 sts)

So knit 4 stitches at the beginning of the row – this step was omitted.

Waddle the penguin

The last row on the earflaps should read as follows:

Next row: sl1, k2tog, psso. (1 st)

Gurgle the fish

On the main hat, the fourth line up from the end should read as follows:

Nest RS row: K3, M1, k1, M1, k6, M1, k1, M1, k3. (18 sts)

So knit 6 stitches in the middle of the row and not 8 as printed.

Knit Your Own Zombie

Frankenstein’s monster

Jacket

On third column on page 30, after 5th bullet point up from bottom of column where it reads ‘Rep last 2 rows 3 times more’ please carry out this instruction then knit 1 more row

The next bullet point (4th up from the bottom) should then read:

Next row: Cast off 3 sts kwise, P to end then P across the other 31 sts on the needle. (42 sts)

The pattern is correct from this point on.

Fairytale Knits

The wolf

On the body, the sixth bullet point should read:

Work 10 rows in st st, beg with a K row

(Currently it states you should begin with a purl row)

The 12 Knits of Christmas

Nine ladies dancing

The instructions for repeating the rows for the skirt went a bit wrong and the skirt comes out longer than illustrated. Rather than point out the places where the pattern was incorrect, I’ve rewritten it so please work to the pattern shown below.

Make 2 pieces

Cast on 22 sts in pale pink.

1st row: K.

Next row: K1, (yf, k2tog) to last st, K1.

Rep last 2 rows once more.

Next row: K1, k2tog, K to last 3 sts, ssk, K1. [20 sts]

Next row: K2, (yf, k2tog) to end.

Next row: K.

Next row: K2, (yf, k2tog) to end.

Rep last 2 rows once more.

Next row: K1, k2tog, K to last 3 sts, ssk, K1. [18 sts]

Next row: K1, (yf, k2tog) to last st, K1.

Next row: K.

Next row: K1, (yf, k2tog) to last st, K1.

Rep last 2 rows once more.

Next row: K1, k2tog, K to last 3 sts, ssk, K1. [16 sts]

Next row: K2, (yf, k2tog) to end.

Next row: K.

Next row: K2, (yf, k2tog) to end.

Rep last 2 rows once more.

Next row: K1, k2tog, K to last 3 sts, ssk, K1. [14 sts]

Next row: K1, (yf, k2tog) to last st, K1.

Next row: K.

Rep last 2 rows once more.

Cast off.

Twelve drummers drumming

The instruction for the fourth asterisk should read ‘Work 18 rows in st st, beg with a K row…’ not ‘Work 19 rows’.

Knit yor own royal wedding

The Queen

Page 37, Dress

The 8th bullet point should read ‘Work 5 rows in st st beg with a P row’ (it currently says to begin with a K row).

Camilla

The pattern is correct but there are three miscounted stitch totals – the figures given in square brackets after some of lines in the pattern that require increasing or decreasing.

Page 46, Body

Third from last bullet point – stitch count should be [15] not [13]

Second from last bullet point – stitch count should be [14] not [12]

Legs

Third bullet point should be [10] and not [12]

Dress

Sixth bullet should read ‘Work 5 rows in st st beg with a P row’ (it currently says to begin with a K row)

Hat

Sixth bullet should read ‘K1, m1, K to last st, m1, K1’ (it currently says knit to last 2 sts)

Harry

Page 32, Jacket

Fourth bullet point – this should read ‘…remembering to K1 st at the beg and end of every ws row’ rather than ‘K2 sts’ to make it consistent with the third bullet point. But it does not really matter whether you K1 or K2 sts at the end of each ws row – if you K2, you will simply have a slightly (but only very slightly) thicker side borders on the jacket.

Kate

Page 24, Dress

In the ‘you will need’ I say you need 4-ply (fingering) yarn for Kate’s dress. This is correct. In the pattern itself on page , it refers to DK yarn – which will work but just make a thicker dress. Stick to 4-ply like it says originally if you can.

Knitivity

Not technically a typo but a few people are having a problem with the ox instructions, so I’ve written them in a slightly fuller more explanatory way below:

Body

The body and head are knitted as one piece.

Cast on 27 sts in dark brown.

Work 4 rows st st beg with a K row.

Next row: K9, m1, K to last 9 sts, m1, K9.

Next row: P.

Next row: K.

Next row: P.

Repeat last 4 rows four times more. [37 sts]

Next row: K9, m1, K to last 9 sts, m1, K9.

Next row: P.

Repeat last 2 rows nine times more [57 sts]

Work 4 rows in st st beg with a K row.

Next row: K9, (k2tog) 9 times, K3, (ssk) 9 times, K9. [39 sts]

Next row: P.

Next row: Cast off 5 sts, K to end.

Next row: Cast of 5 sts pwise, K to end. [29 sts]

This bit just underlined is worked in K stitch but you are on the reverse of your work (where you would normally purl when working stocking stitch) so it will give you a garter stitch ridge round what will be the ox’s neck.

Work 9 rows in st st beg with a K row.

Next row: K.

This bit just underlined is worked in K stitch but you are on the reverse of your work (where you would normally purl when working stocking stitch) so it will give you a garter stitch ridge round what will be the ox’s nose.

Next row: k2tog, K to last 2 sts, ssk.

Next row: P.

Repeat last two rows once more. [25 sts]

Next row: (s1, k2tog, psso) 4 times, K1, (s1, k2tog, psso) 4 times. [9 sts]

Next row: (p2tog) twice, P1, (p2tog) twice. (5 sts)

Break yarn, thread it through the remaining sts, pull it up and secure.

Knit your own dolls

Rainbow Bella

Dress

Cast on 64 sts in F, not 32 sts as printed.

Row 41: The stitch count at the end of this row should be 33 and not 17 as printed.

The rest of the pattern is correct as printed.

Superhero Stan

Sweater

There’s been a bit of a mix up in the original on where you place the stitch markers. So please replace the paragraph after the instructions for Row 1 (which you work as stated) with this:

Work 8 rows in st st beg with a k row. On the Front, place a stitch marker or a small safety pin between the middle two stitches of the last row (the 11th and 12th sts), to indicate the center of row 1 of the star motif chart (see below). Work 10 rows in st st beg with a k row.

After you have worked Row 21, please do the following:

Mark beg and end of last row with stitch markers or small safety pins to show where the sleeves will start or finish.

Then continue pattern as printed, Repeating rows 20–21 once more and continuing to the end.

Ballerina Caterina

Dress bodice

The number of stitches to be bound/cast off on the front of the bodice is wrong. Row 13 should read as follows:

Bind (cast) off 3 sts keeping to patt, (1 st rem on needle from binding/casting off), k1, p1, bind (cast) off 5 sts keeping to patt, (1 st rem on needle from binding/casting off), k1, p1, bind (cast) off rem sts keeping to patt.

The rest of the pattern is correct.
